The Sideshow Fringe Festival is Nashville’s Progressive Performing Arts Event, founded in 2011. It’s a 4- day celebration featuring theatre and related live presentations with a special emphasis on original and innovative forms and formats. Dance, music, puppetry, aerial arts, juggling, poetry, and more is showcased in a multi-venue setting with special free outdoor events and family friendly offerings. We seek to connect initiative with opportunity and to offer Nashville’s creative community a space to come together in a showcase of their talents that celebrates diversity, encourages creative dialogue, and stimulates the cultural economy.
What is Fringe, anyway? Glad you asked! Check out this helpful info from our friends at the United States Association of Fringe Festivals!
The 6th annual festival will be housed in Belmont’s Troutt & Black Box Theater, The Darkhorse Theatre, AbrasiveMedia, as well as the Actors Bridge Studio with special “secret” pop-up performance surprises! All Sideshow Fringe shows are 90 minutes or less.
The Sideshow Fringe Festival is produced by the Sideshow Ensemble @ Actors Bridge. The Sideshow Fringe Festival and the Sideshow Ensemble are programs of Actors Bridge Ensemble, a professional theatre company and actor training program celebrating over 20 years in Nashville.
The Sideshow Fringe Festival website was designed by the brilliant minds at abrasiveMedia and funded in part by a generous grant from the TN Arts Commission. The Artist Blind Date Project was presented in the 2012 festival thanks to Creation Grant funding from the Metro Nashville Arts Commission. 2013 brings the first ever Family Fringe by way of MNAC’s generous funding for under-served audiences.
